icann54-dublin-logoICANN will be holding its 54th public meeting at the end of October in Dublin, hosted by INEX.

It’s the first time Dublin has played host to the ICANN public meeting and from what I’ve seen and heard over the past few months, it’s going to be a very well attended meeting.

Hopefully we’ll see a lot of the Irish technical and business community in attendance too!

So what is ICANN?

Why is it important?

Why do people like me get involved?

Should you be involved?

What do you need to do to get involved?

If you’re interested in getting answers to these and many other questions, then why not join me and others at a special event being held in Dublin in a few weeks time?

The event is being held in The Blue Room at the Dean Hotel, Dublin on September 17th from 1730 to 2000.

So what’s the event format?

It’s a panel discussion featuring me (yay!). Seriously though ..

The panelists will be:

  • Michele Neylon, Blacknight (Ok – I wasn’t joking)
  • Richard Browne, Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Representative of the Republic of Ireland in ICANN’s Government Advisory Committee
  • Maria Farrell, ICANN civil society (NCSG) and InterConnect Communications
  • Jean-Jacques Sahel, VP Europe, ICANN
  • Moderator: Karlin Lillington

There’s always a lot going on in the world of ICANN and internet governance, but over the last couple of years the spotlight has increasingly been shone on ICANN itself, as the US government has announced its intention to transition the IANA functions away from US government control to the wider internet community. Of course there are also a lot of changes with the introduction of hundreds of new top level domain names like .host, .irish and many many more.

If you’re interested in attending the event please register via email to: emea.communications@icann.org
