Single Character dotMobi Domains Coming Soon

Short domains are better, but even more so when you're trying to tap in the address with one hand on your mobile device.

Caroline has posted on the DotMobi blog that they'll be making available single character dotMobi domains very soon (ie. a.mobi, 1.mobi etc.,) in a similar fashion to their city domains applications process ie. via proposals NOT auctions.

It will be interesting to see who gets the domains and what they do with them.

Interesting. It certainly would make some domain names easier to type on a mobile phone.

However, some single characters will require more effort than certain multi-character names! For example, both "s.mobi" and "data.mobi" would require the same number of button presses on a mobile phone.

Indeed, many believe that "mobi" was a bad choice for this TLD, because it requires so many button presses on a mobile phone.

I wonder if any of the other TLDs allow single character domains. I remember hearing that 3Com (who was one of the first purchasers of a .com) originally wanted to buy 3.com. Apparently they were unable, because you cannot have a single character .com domain.
